About Treatments

What can I expect?

Prior to your first treatment we will have to take a confidential client assessment with a few sections for you to fill in regarding your general health, current and previous medical history and reason for visit etc, thus enabling Sam to check for any contraindications to any treatment. Every session is designed for each client individually and the client assessment helps Sam to adapt his skills in order to administrate and deliver a personalised session to meet your requirements accurately and professionally.

Contraindications preclude the delivery of soft tissue therapy. Unfortunately clients are absolute from therapy if they have a physical or mental condition that can be made worse when having STT delivered to them. *

Contraindications that will prevent clients undergoing STT are as follows:

– Concussion

– DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis)

– Heart Attack

– Pacemaker

– Tumours or Cancer

– Fungal, Bacterial, Viral Infections

– Sensory loss

– Under the influence of alcohol or drugs

– Under age

– First 16 weeks of pregnancy

– First 12 weeks of second pregnancy

*Prior, during and post treatments Sam will notify his client to anything that would substantially affect their decision, operating strict rules of consent and obtain their strictest confidence that their information and therapy sessions will remain confidential.

Concerns about Soft Tissue Therapy

What will the treatment feel like?

It depends on the techniques used. In general a massage session may start with broad, flowing strokes which will help to calm your nervous system and relax exterior muscle tension. As your body becomes relaxed, pressure will gradually be increased to relax specific areas and relieve areas of muscular tension. You should communicate immediately if you feel any discomfort so that another approach may be taken. Bodywork/ STT is most effective when your body is not resisting.

Does STT hurt?

Generally it does not, but quite frequently we will find a tense muscle group that needs a bit more pressure in order to facilitate a release; we will ask you to communicate your feelings during the treatment to make sure you are kept within a comfortable pain zone at all times.

What to expect following treatment?

Please note that on occasion there may be a number of natural reactions that can occur after treatment. These can include:

– Tenderness around the treated areas

– Increased irritations around the treated area

– Heat or redness around the treated area

All of these reactions are quite normal and are part of the normal healing process. These symptoms usually last between 24 and 72 hours.

What should I wear?

It is up to the client what he/she wears during treatment. Obviously the areas that require treatment need to be unclothed. I can reassure my clients that towels are used at all times to drape them and their modesty is considered like second nature.

Usually underwear will suffice during treatment but there are no problems with loose shorts (if working on lower body) if it makes you feel more comfortable.
